biographyWhen Romain was cast in the fun horror flick Circus of Horrors (1960; with Anton Diffring and Donald Pleasence), her film career went in the direction of the macabre. Soon, Romain became a scream queen in such horror films as The Curse of the Werewolf (1961; with Oliver Reed), Night Creatures (1962; with Peter Cushing and Oliver Reed), and my personal favorite Devil Doll (1964; with Bryant Haliday and William Sylvester). Her last starring roles came in the comedies The Swinger (1966; with Ann-Margret and Anthony Franciosa) and Double Trouble (1967; with Elvis Presley). In 1958, Romain married famed music composer Leslie Bricusse, who wrote scores of well-known songs during his career, including the lyrics for the Bond theme songs "Goldfinger" and "You Only Live Twice." Romain cooled her career in 1967 to care for her son, Adam, who was born in April 1964. While Romain's marriage proved very rocky, with the couple separating for periods of time in the 1970s, ultimately she decided to end her acting career and managed to patch things up with Bricusse. |
